Are you a passionate marketeer looking to make a difference? Perhaps you're looking for a career break or you're a recent graduate with a stand-out CV? Would you like to work in Africa for a leading wildlife welfare and conservation charity?
Lilongwe Wildlife Trust invested almost $1 million into Malawi’s wildlife last year and we’re growing fast. We’re accredited and supported by the world’s top wildlife institutes and organisations and our work is diverse. We run Malawi’s only wildlife sanctuary as well as the country’s wildlife emergency response unit on behalf of the government. Our anti-trafficking initiatives include re-writing the Parks & Wildlife Act, introducing sniffer dogs, and coordinating the government’s Wildlife Crime Intelligence Unit. Our wildlife crime campaigning and advocacy work has recently gained support as high up as His Excellency, the President, and our conservation education programmes are expected to reach over 45,000 school children nationwide this year. Wildlife research is also an important area of growth.
Reporting to the Programmes Director, you will work on international marketing focusing on getting LWT’s stories out to its supporters as well as growing the support base, promoting the volunteer programme and at times helping on project management.
We’re looking for a hardworking, flexible and outgoing individual who has excellent attention to detail, can follow direction closely but also work autonomously and manage their own workload. You need to have a passion for wildlife, and have either worked in the wildlife sector before or at least be committed to learn your topic quickly. Excellent copywriting skills and web savviness are essential since much of your time will be spent writing articles, updating our website and finding new ways to reach out through social media and other channels. Experience of fundraising or donor management within the charitable sector is a plus, as is living or working overseas in a developing country.
A commitment of a minimum of 6 months, ideally 12 months, is required. You shall be based within our urban wildlife reserve at Lilongwe Wildlife Centre and work a 5 day week, accruing 2 days holiday per month. Shared accommodation, food, airport transfers and a stipend of $300 per month is provided. You need to cover the cost of your flights, visas and insurance.
