Eritrea: Strenuous Efforts Needed to Preserve Wildlife Resource in Kerkebet Sub-Zone

Kerkebet — The inhabitants of various administrative areas in Kerkebet sub-zone stressed the need for establishing reserve areas so as to promote and preserve wildlife resource.

They stated that the sub-zone is endowed with a variety of wildlife such as ostrich, gazelle, zebra and the like. They went on to say that although there exist rich wildlife resource in the sub-zone, the absence of safe haven for the wildlife is becoming an issue of concern. In this respect, the inhabitants urged the regional Administration and the Agriculture Ministry to work tirelessly to this end.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Osman Mohammed Nor, said on his part that setting up reserve areas in the sub-zone is of vital significance taking into account the growing number of wildlife.
