Outraged by the rampant land grabs and neocolonialism of REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest degradation), Africans at the World Social Forum in Tunisia took the historic decision to launch the No REDD in Africa Network and join the global movement against REDD.
NAIROBI, KENYA — Smallholder farmers across East Africa have started to embrace climate-resilient farming approaches and technologies, according to new research recently published by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). At the same time, the survey evidence suggests that many of the changes in farming practices are incremental, rather than transformative in nature, and that high levels of food insecurity prevent many from making all of the changes needed in order to cope with a changing climate.
WINDHOEK – Preliminary evaluations indicate that climate variability has an effect on the distribution of marine species because of the changes in temperature. A group of marine scientists from Namibia, South Africa and Angola are meeting outside Windhoek to identify and quantify trends in climate variability in the Benguela Current, which is shared by the three countries.
